Overall Rating: 7/10
The dragons in this book are very different from most dragons in fantasy: they're academic, mathematical, and they scoff at the silly human concept of emotion. The world of Goredd sees dragons and humans in an uneasy peace treaty, and Seraphina finds herself caught in the middle.
This is a book that doesn't lay out everything for the reader; you have to keep going to discover more about the world and its characters. Hartman's writing is rich and complex. I look forward to reading the sequel, Shadow Scale.
