Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo

Shadow and Bone is about a girl that discovers she has a special power that changes not only her life, but the world. She goes on an adventure to cultivate this power, find love, and destroy a great evil.

The story is as down-to-earth as it is funny and easy to understand. The characters and plot draw you in, and you realize you can't put it down again. The only thing I didn't personally like was the relationship between the main character and her love interest, but that isn't the only element of the book so it doesn't really matter.

I would recommend this book to a very dedicated reader, one that enjoys tales of magic and adventure, ready to have twists at every turn. This is not a story for a light read.
