"Yes, the Fuhrer decided that he would rule the world with words. 'I will never fire a gun,' he devised. 'I will not have to.' [...] His first plan of attack was to plant the words in as many areas of his homeland as possible. He planted them day and night, and cultivated them. He watched them grow, until eventually, great forests of words had risen throughout Germany... It was a nation of farmed thoughts."

The Book Thief is a beautifully written book that caught my attention in the first page. It's not a book I would usually read, but my humanities teacher is reading it to the class so I read it to be able to help the students. I found it a tough read due to the content; I am not interested in Nazi Germany, but the story elicited an emotional response in me. It is a sad story of a little girl told by Death. It brought me to tears. I was invested in the characters.
